Use these buttons to specify how many steps are used in the motif. A Rhythm motif may be anything from 1 to 16 steps in length. Each motif can have a different number of steps.

The table below shows some typical situations.

Simple Medium Complex

4 beats/bar 4 or 8 8 or 16 16

3 beats/bar 3 or 6 6 or 9 9 or 12

The default number of steps for Rhythm motifs is 16. The Set Number of Steps for 3/4 Time function in the Options Menu changes all Rhythm motifs to use 12 steps.
